Parkinson’s Disease presents a range of different challenges that can alter how you are able to successfully complete your self care, household tasks, hobbies and leisure activities. I can help determine your symptoms and how they effect your day to day. I am able to help provide recommendations for modifications or equipment to make your days easier and more full by working to find solutions that will enable you to stay active and independent.
The main symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are a combination of muscle rigidity, bradykinesia (slow movement), tremors, and postural instability. Each individual has a different combination of these, and the distribution can vary. Some people find more difficulty on one side of their body, some feel that slowness is their biggest difficulty. Postural instability and impaired balance are also common in Parkinson's disease, increasing the risk of falls. Fear of falling can lead individuals to limit their mobility and avoid certain activities, impacting their quality of life and independence.
While Parkinson's primarily affects movement, it can also lead to cognitive changes, including difficulties with memory, concentration, and executive function. These cognitive impairments can affect daily tasks such as planning, organizing, and decision-making.
Managing medication regimens for Parkinson's can be complex, as medications need to be taken at specific times and dosages adjusted over time. Additionally, individuals may experience fluctuations in symptom control, known as "on-off" fluctuations, which can affect their ability to engage in daily activities.
We are all unique and thus the recommendations can be different for each person based on their specific needs.
